1.What is IPX1 testing?
IPX1 testing is a part of the Ingress Protection (IP) Code, which classifies and rates the degree of protection provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures against intrusion, dust, accidental contact, and water. The “X” in IPX1 stands for the level of protection against solid objects, and in this case, it indicates that there is no specific rating for protection against solid particles. The “1” in IPX1 refers to the level of protection against water.
Specifically, IPX1 testing evaluates the degree of protection against vertically falling water droplets when the enclosure is in its normal position. During the test, the equipment or enclosure is placed on a turntable, and it rotates at a rate of 1 r/min. Water is sprayed at it from above at a rate of 10 L/min with a test duration of 10 minutes. The purpose of this test is to determine if product can withstand vertically falling water droplets without allowing water to enter and affect its performance.
The IPX1 rating indicates that the equipment or enclosure provides protection against vertically falling water droplets but does not guarantee protection against other forms of water ingress such as spraying or splashing from different angles.
2. What is IPX2 testing?
IPX2 testing evaluates the degree of protection against dripping water when the enclosure is tilted at an angle of 15 degrees from its normal position. During the test, water is dripped onto the equipment or enclosure for a duration of 10 minutes. The purpose of this test is to determine if the equipment can withstand dripping water without allowing it to enter and affect its performance.
