How to Effectively Maintain and Replace Wet Bulb Gauze in Temperature and Humidity Chambers

Ensuring the wet bulb gauze in your temperature and humidity chamber is well-maintained is essential for accurate humidity measurements. Improper installation or worn-out gauze can result in erroneous data. Below are detailed steps and tips for proper installation and replacement:

Proper Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare the Gauze: Cut a piece of wet bulb gauze approximately 100mm in length.
  2. Wet the Gauze: Soak the gauze thoroughly before placing it over the humidity sensor.
  3. Install the Gauze: Ensure that the top part covers the humidity sensor while the bottom part is submerged in the water tank.

Key Considerations:

  • Regular Replacement: Replace the gauze immediately if it hardens or its water absorption capability diminishes.
  • Alternative Material: In situations where wet bulb gauze is unavailable, standard wet tissues can be used as a temporary substitute.
  • Long-Term Tests: Remove the gauze during extended temperature tests to prevent damage.
  • Correct Placement: Make sure the gauze is properly hung on the humidity sensor, not on the temperature sensor, to avoid incorrect readings.
  • Routine Maintenance: Clean or replace the gauze every three months, and clean it monthly to prevent mineral deposits from affecting its absorption efficiency.

Troubleshooting Humidity Display Issues:

If your humidity display is stuck at 100%, this might be due to incorrect gauze placement or inadequate water absorption by the gauze. In such cases:

  • Check for any discoloration or wear on the gauze.
  • Ensure that there is enough water in the tank.
  • Verify that the water flow and refill systems are functioning correctly.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can maintain the accuracy and longevity of your temperature and humidity chamber. For further assistance or inquiries, please contact us at zhy@bonad.com. We offer free consultations and troubleshooting support.
